The business
The company sells advertising time on digital screens in shopping centres, stations and car parks across three countries in Northern Europe. Advertisers pay for screen time. An hour of a dark screen is an hour nobody can sell.
The problem
Most screens that go dark aren't broken. The media player or the screen has frozen, and a power cycle fixes it in seconds. But the screens hang on pillars and walls hundreds of kilometres apart. Every "just restart it" meant sending someone on site.
The setup
- A Shelly Pro 1PM relay sits on the power line of each screen. Every screen can be switched remotely.
- Each device is named after its exact spot, like "2nd floor corridor, by the entrance". The operations team always knows which screen they're looking at.
- All 400+ devices sit in one Fleet Manager.
How Fleet Manager fits
- Remote control through the relay. Any screen can be switched off, on, or power-cycled from the dashboard in a few seconds, without a technician trip.
- Power reading per screen. The Pro 1PM measures power. A screen that is "on" but draws next to nothing shows up straight away.
- Offline alerts. When a device drops off, the team knows before the shopping centre calls.
- One fleet, many people. Roles and permissions control who can see and restart which screens.
What it gives them
Restarts that took a technician half a day now take seconds, and every avoided trip pays for the device. And because every screen reports its power, uptime can be measured instead of guessed.
