200 photo booths, restarted without a drive
- Business
- Photo booth and vending operator
- Fleet
- 200 booths, growing to 1,000
- Device
- A Shelly Plug on every booth
The business
The company runs photo booths and vending machines in venues it doesn't own, across the United States. A booth that sits frozen on a Saturday night earns nothing that night, and the venue is the one who calls to complain.
The problem
Most of the time a frozen booth isn't broken. The computer or the printer has hung, and unplugging it and plugging it back in fixes it. But the booths are spread over many venues and many miles. Every "just restart it" meant a phone call to venue staff or a drive.
The setup
- A Shelly Plug sits between each booth and the wall socket.
- The plugs go into one Fleet Manager as the booths are fitted: about 200 booths over the first three months, and a plan to grow to 1,000 by the end of 2027.
- Plugs can be set up in bulk before they ship. On site, someone just plugs them in.
How Fleet Manager fits
- Remote restart. A frozen booth is power-cycled from a laptop or phone in seconds.
- Offline alerts. When a booth loses power or connection, the team knows before the venue calls.
- Power per booth. The plug measures power. A booth that is "on" but idle all night stands out.
- Built to scale. The same setup works for 20 booths or 2,000, with roles for the team and technicians.
What it gives them
A restart that used to cost a drive or an awkward call to the venue now takes seconds, and one avoided trip pays for the plug. Every new booth gets the same plug. The fleet grows, the support team doesn't have to grow with it.
